As most of you will know, the Writers Guild of America are currently on strike. The strike started on the 5th of November 2007 – and is still on now. It’s effecting a lot of hit shows, such as 24 and heroes. But will it affect Dead Like Me? We can assume that it won’t affect the Dead Like Me Movie. If you read the previous post – we have a link to a site where you can hear Ellen Muth say that the movie will be out in July, and is currently in Post-Production.
Wikipedia (everyone’s favourite source of information) defines Post-Production as editing the picture, editing the soundtrack, Writing and recording the soundtrack music and adding visual special. This should basically mean that the writers are no longer involved.
Where the strike “Could” effect Dead Like Me is if the show was going to go back to series. Although it is still unconfirmed, and it has already been stated that a series would only be possible if the Dead Like Me Film was taken well, would the scripts for a possible series already have been started? They would need revisions, changes, agreements, collaboration. Would all this work have started after the film had been released, and waited until the sales built up to a decent level – or would they have everything ready to get going as soon as the facts were in.
It would be great to get some solid evidence for the possibility of a new series. Have the actors signed long contracts that they would work on the show again? When Dead Like Me was originally in production – the actors were in 5 year contracts.
It would also be great to find out if the writers (credited as) Stephen Godchaux and John Masius are on strike, or have started any series script.
As soon as more info about the series, the film and any other info is found out, it’ll be posted on here.
“Just Push Play” (a Pop-Culture blog run by Gary) have just posted a podcast interview with Ellen Muth.
In the interview Ellen states that the movie is still in Post-Production but will be released in July.

Although some of you will know these facts, I thought I would just answer a few of the emails I’ve been getting in one post:
Ellen Muth – YES, Ellen Muth will be playing Georgia “George” Lass.
Narration – Ellen Muth the star of Dead Like Me, will be doing the “voice over” / narrating that everyone loves in the upcoming Dead Like Me Film. – This is 100% definitely confirmed. It’s in the “Dead Like Me Movie Trailer”, it’s been confirmed by Ellen herself at a press / fan conference. (We’d love to post a link to an official source if anyone has one)
Characters – Almost all of the original cast are back. Yes – even Delores “her big brown eyes” Herbig (Christine Willes) and everyone favourite ex Special Forces agent Crystal Smith (Crystal Dahl). Two significant changes are Rube Sofer (Mandy Patinkin) and Daisy Adair (Laura Harris), who will not be in the film.
New Characters – Goodbye Rube. Goodbye Daisy. — Hello Cameron (Henry Ian Cusick) and err, Hello Daisy (Sarah Wynter). There is also an unconfirmed character called Hudson who will be Reggie’s boyfriend.
The Film – the film will be a Direct to DVD release. i.e not in the cinema.
The Story – I will update “The Movie” tab as soon as possible – to give a better idea what the films storyline.
Possible New Series – Rumour has it, that if the sale of the DVDs are good – the show could go back to series. If you ever needed a reason to buy a DVD instead of just downloading it from the internet – this is it.

And here’s a bit of a rant to all the Dead Like Me Movie doubters out there (Sorry to all the fans)
After reading around the net for people’s thoughts on Dead Like Me and the Dead Like Me Movie, I’m surprised to see how many people are saying “If Brian Fuller isn’t involved, I’m not interested.” or “No Mandy Patinkin, No Dead Like Me.” This is a very extreme view – and any true Dead Like Me fan should at least give the film a chance. Here’s two reasons why:
1. Brian Fuller – although he came up with the idea of Dead Like Me / the characters / the “Dead Like Me World”, he had a dispute with the network broadcasting the show, and left after 5 episodes. He must have had his reasons to leave such a great show and his ideas behind, but Dead Like Me “lived on” for another season without him. Dead Like Me wasn’t canceled because Fuller left, ShowTime, decided to drop it from their schedule. If you are someone who only enjoyed the first 5 episodes of Dead Like Me, then the Dead Like Me Movie may not be for you. Did you notice any differences? Post a comment below, let us know.
2. Mandy Patinkin – If you’ve read any previous posts on here, you may have already seen that Mandy Patinkin not being in the Dead Like Me Movie is something that I personally will be sad about. The relationship between Rube and George was great, and the father figure to the rest of the reapers was also a big part of the show to me. Mandy Patinkin Leaving Dead Like Me isn’t the first time an important character has left though. How many of you didn’t like it when Betty (Rebecca Gayheart) was “replaced” by Daisy (Sarah Wynter)? Read around. Checkout some of the Dead Like Me fan sites. There were a lot of upset people. But eventually we got used to Daisy, and through character development, learned to love her. I’m sure the same will happen with Cameron Kane (Henry Ian Cusick). You also have to remember – this is the Dead Like Me Movie. It’s going to be a couple of hours long. I think Dead Like Me deserves at least that amount of your time to try it out. Who knows – if it is picked up for a series, Rube could always come back.
