Dead Like Me and MGM
A friend has told me there is a great post on DeadLikeMeOnline.com (with a quote from Ellen-Muth.com), by the user DB7878.
I’ve tried to find it to give you the link, but i carn’t so check this out.
Basiclly it says that MGM is having money troubles, and it just simply dosnt have the cash to pay to get the DVDs of the Dead Like Me Movie out this year.
Here is the bit of the message:
Cash flow is short. That’s why they’ve decided to delay the Dead Like Me Movie. Normally, no one in their right mind would incur up front expenses and then decide not to start earning the revenues. They just don’t have even the moderate cash it would take to launch the DVD for what is a modest project on time.
This is also why they’ve recently been throwing the first two seasons of episodes out there to any TV station with a few dollars. This behavior hurts the Movie launch, damages chances for a start up of the series, and IMO only makes sense if they’re sacrificing the DLM franchise in long term to gets some cash in the short term to fund those major commitments that they absolutely cannot afford to come up short on.
For me sliver of good in all this is that the financial pressure has probably been there for some time. That they elected to green light the Movie shows they know they have a valuable franchise on their hands. If they had the resources they probably would have already restarted the series.
The original cancellation was, in part, due to extreme financial difficulties that impacted MGM’s flexibility in the negotiations with Showtime. Here we f#@#g go again.
The sad thing is the overall situation for them could take a long time to resolve itself so that some owner of the DLM franchise could have the means and will to get it going again.
What you think? I never would have thought MGM had money troubles, but if you search google, there is a bit going around about it.

I wonder if this is really the reason, I hope the reason is as good as this. Also I would love to link your site on the myspace page I run for the show.

That is a difficult pill to swallow. I hope the financial difficulties can be settled soon and they will release it. I wish I could see it this year, but I have waited this long and can wait a bit longer. On a good note, this gives me another reason to purchase the first season, so hopefully it will help even a little.

MGM is building an 8.1 BILLION dollar CityCenter complex in Las Vegas. With the recent sudden downturn in the economy and the worst possibly yet to come, my feeling is all available cash is going toward that project.
Even though the movie will give us much wanted new material, I suspect it will leave us unsatisfied anyway with Mandy being replaced and the years in between. It just won’t be the same as having the series gracefully mature.
