Dead Like Me Movie Set Back… D’oh!!

Here’s something you really didn’t want to hear – The Dead Like Me Movie has been pushed back to 2009!!
Quoted from ellen-muth.com:
We’ve just had word that the movie of Dead Like Me has been moved back to 2009. At this stage it’s too early to say for sure when in 2009, but hopefully it will be early 2009! On the plus side Ellen has finished the entire 90 minute commentary with the director in one day! If we hear any more we’ll be sure to let you know.
This is a real setback – and we could really do with a reason (although, I’m sure we wont get one). From that statement we can see that: A: The movie is complete, B: The rerecording that needed to be done is now finished. C: Even the DVD extra features commentaries are complete. (90mins length of the film?)
What exactly is the hold up??? What can possibly take 6 months to complete?
I think Homer Simpson has the best way to describe the news: “D’oh!”
Please feel free to fill the comments with your pain. Go on… let it out. You’ll feel better.

NOOOOOOO!!!!! This is ten shades of suck is what it is, I guess I’ll have to continue watching the re-runs to get my DLM fix.

“What exactly is the hold up??? What can possibly take 6 months to complete?”
Re filming certain scenes to include Mandy Patinkin and Laura Harris !!
Wishful Thinking. Haha.

Maybe they felt that the movie needed further editing, and due to some other bigger project, it just got pushed back. Done filming doesn’t mean done editing. Anyway, I was really looking forward to seeing this movie soon. I discovered this series a few months ago, and after watching the first two seasons, was dissapointed to learn that there was no more. Bummer!
April 19th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
If it is being pushed till 2009 just a thought.
If scifi or another network picked up the rights to DLM. what if they are going to start filming a new season and have the movie be the start of it? or have the video come out a couple weeks before the new season?
just a speculation.

What the hell…this is bull…I hope this is bull!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Oh no…so we have to wait even longer =(.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Well that’s just crappy, I thought it was going to be earlier than that (even earlier than July 22nd 2008), my eyes are a little…..moist…..now. All things considering, when the show finished I thought it was actually over and done for good. So I can wait (but that’s one looooong freakin’ wait) and I’ll take what I can get in 2009, later is better than never.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 am
Aww Man, no way. Lets just hope it’s released early ‘09!
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Have been looking forward to this… Will continue to!
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:26 am

April 25th, 2008 at 6:09 am

May 19th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
absolutly rediculous, i wish i could just forget about DLM right now and only remember when the film is advertised. unfortunetly its just too good
May 21st, 2008 at 11:11 am
No no no no no no! We couldn’t wait til this year let alone next year.
Gutted
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Guess they don’t need the money then, cos I think we would all be buying it as soon as it comes out. Hope they read the websites and realise they’re sitting on a little goldmine and all they have to do is RELEASE THE DARN THING!!!
June 6th, 2008 at 3:56 am
i know everyone thinks this sucks and all, but if it had been released this year i might just have missed it. i had no idea they were making a movie and possibly bringing the show back to tv….. this is the ultra coolest of the ultra cool! i’m really excited, i don’t care if i have to wait forever!
June 6th, 2008 at 6:10 am
I am totally gutted by this news, especially as ive heard its straight to dvd, and im in england so no doubt itll take ages to be put on region 2
The series was amazing though and I cant wait to see an older less geeky reggie. god she looks different. If she and george forge a relationship itll be great to watch too.
Shame about daisy. i hate when characters change it really buggers things up…the diegetic world just becomes that bit more fake as you compare the actresses etc. It makes you take a step back and acknowledge its not real. Also i love lost and desmond so im sure hell be a great new boss, but you cant beat rube. he was the really dark character that made it all work so well. Why isnt he back?
June 8th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Hmmm….2009 is not THAT f
June 13th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
This is just sad. The whole family here was waiting for the release of this movie, just so we could run out and buy the DVD so the series could return.
June 16th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
I love this series….I can’t wait for the movie, and hopefully a series to come with it. Keep pushing hard for this. I think everyone needs to see a different side to death. It really is ensuring to see something besides the negative…comical death with hope.
June 16th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I just got in a mood and spent the weekend re-watching seasons 1 and 2, got on here out of curiosity to see what the cast has been up to since then, and was absolutely elated to find they were making the film! I had no idea! But then my pretty little bubble was busted when I saw the date was pushed back…now i’m all sad again…
June 21st, 2008 at 8:46 am
We still have 8 more episodes to watch in Season 2. I don’t think we can stretch it out until 2009! Please, Please, Please, release the movie soon. We are jonesing for something intelligent to watch. Better yet bring back the series (but I doubt the general uneducated public would support it a second time around either). Bummer!
June 23rd, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Do you ever think that movie and television companies just like to toture people? Jeez, for all fifty of us who love this show, it’s not really worth toturing us like this.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
There are lots of us who love the show and have been awaiting the movie, release, even old grandmas like me. I hope it will be available in Feb. when my son returns from Iraq, he’s looking formward to it too.
June 27th, 2008 at 10:25 am
I hate to be a Debbie Downer but it’s been 5 years! i highly doubt that they’ll bring the series back and if they do, it’ll include either different characters or different people to play the characters. Think about it, Ellen Muth is almost 30! Reggie can’t possibly pass for 14, she’s looks 19! I love the show, I really do, but maybe some other show about grim reapers will be made and hopefully be as good as this one was.
June 27th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
THIS SUCKSSSSSSSSSSS!
A lot.
!!!
Hopefully they change their minds!

I do think they are punishing us.
evil meanies
July 5th, 2008 at 6:47 am
So so unfair, I’ve only got 1 more episode of season 2 to watch, and I’m in the UK so if the sales in the USA aren’t great they’re not going to release it here! Maybe I can go on an extended holiday just to see the movie!
July 5th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
I was really looking forward to this movie.. it sucks that I have to wait YET another year to see it… Im sad Hopefully the sales are good enough to bring the series back!!
July 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
son of a b*tch… I thought it was still set for July up until today… WTF man, I was really looking forward to it.
July 7th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Oh…My God!!!!!
I have waited this dvd movies for a very long time….
Today as I saw this information of setback…………….
I felt so pain! It makes me like to be dead.
By the way, I am from Taiwan, and there are so many fans like me here, and
of course the same feeling as me.
July 12th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Wikipedia says MGM had a cash shortage, which is delaying the release of the movie.
We just can’t get a break!!! Movie being released 5 years later, everyone getting older when they’re not supposed to age…
Ian’t believe they cancelled the series in the first place. Something seems amis about that. Bloody politics probably… BAH!
July 18th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I saw the trailer on youtube, and it says 8/29, so i thot it was gonna drop 8/29/08
but then it says /07, referring to… the date the trailer was made? or something?
imdb still says 2008!! but it was updated in february:(
and sarah ISN’T daisy
imdb says sarah and laura played sisters on 24.
doesn’t matter, i love laura! and mandy!
but i look forward to the stellar work of ellen, callum, jasmine, cynthia and britt.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

my sentiments exactly, number 29. I also found out today….looking forward to going online on Tuesday to buy it…cause thats when all movies are released…I read on another googled website about dead like me that ABC….NBC…CBS….one of those C networks is holding off so they can sell it online and compete with Show Time. Its all about friggen money…..cuss word cuss word cuss word!!!!

They could have pushed it back for editing (like someone else said) or marketing reasons. Someone said that they’d make the money from all of us buying it up right away, but I don’t think the industry really cares about 34 people. And like someone else said, they didn’t even know a movie was in the works. They haven’t really done a very good job at publicizing this project and might want the extra time for that.
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Well I hope so rocker. More publicity would hopefully mean more interest and the show coming back! I knew the movie was coming out this summer, just googled it to get an exact date and found out it was pushed back to 2009! Major bummer! I watched the show earlier this year and loved it! Last month they were giving re-runs on channel 9 (in SoCal) and I watched every single one! Can hardly wait, but at least we are getting something! Counting the days….
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:42 pm
OMG! Just found this on another site! I hope it’s true! I am in California, can’t wait. I will buy this as soon as It comes out!:
Wikipedia says MGM is having money troubles, which has delayed the launch of the movie till next year. “On April 18, 2007, MGM announced that they are developing several direct-to-DVD movies and sequels. Included among them is a brand new film based on Dead Like Me. [15] The movie is to be set two years after the last series episode.[16] The movie’s release date was originally July 7, 2008, however due to a money shortage at MGM the release date was pushed back to an unspecified point in 2009, upon which it will be released in a trial run in certain states to test public reaction to the film. The states the movie is to be released in are California, Illinois, New York, Maryland, South Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Montana and Kansas. If the movie sales are as hoped, the movie will be released nationally and Showtime will continue with production of new episodes.”

Thanks for that #37 Brenda! Thankfully I’m in California too. I can’t believe its such a limited release, that sucks for DLM fans all over the world D:
I’ve been revisiting dlm this week. I had to put it out of my mind for a year because it was excruciating when i first discovered it that there were only 2 seasons! How awesome would it be if I could go next week and buy the movie…well…let’s not think about it. They better not decide not to sell the movie at all, because i do believe i would spontaneously combust out of frustration if that were the case.
August 28th, 2008 at 11:13 am
on of the best shows this century, looking forward to the movie, regardless of release date!
November 7th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
DLM is one of the best things since Married with Children. I am hoping it will be out before I die (I am old) Wonder if they can hook up a TV and DVD player in my casket if I don’t make it???????
November 7th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
It’s on! February 17, 2009! Yaaaazzzzz!!!
