Lenders Approve MGM-Spyglass Reorganization Plan

Expect a bankruptcy filing on Monday.

Lenders Approve MGM-Spyglass Reorganization Plan – The Hollywood Reporter

Final* Vote For Control of MGM This Friday

On Friday, creditors vote on a plan to send MGM into bankruptcy court, to be relieved of a crushing debt load, not to mention a management that offered spending solutions at sharp odds with desires of the lenders.

The article referenced inside also has a lot of detail on what’s been happening over the last several months as the lenders (and now Icahn) struggle for control.  If this finally gets settled perhaps stability will allow management to consider options for new projects  (e.g. Dead Like Me?)

Bryan Fuller Resurrects ‘The Munsters’

Critically acclaimed for Dead Like Me,Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies, Bryan Fuller simply hasn’t had any luck in keeping his television projects alive for a lengthy period of time. But his next series could have a considerably better chance at survival: a reboot of The Munsters.

SyFy Orders ‘The Lotus Caves’ Pilot From Bryan Fuller

“New York, New York – August 12, 2010 – Syfy today announced it has commissioned a scripted pilot from Bryan Fuller, creator of Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies.

The show will be based upon the popular book The Lotus Caves by John Christopher, about colonists who rebel against the rigidity of their lunar colony by exploring beyond its proscribed boundaries and discovering a series of caves ruled by a super-intelligent, alien species.

Jim Grey (In Plain Sight, Pushing Daisies) will co-write the script with Fuller.”

Dead Like Me – S3 – 3 Episodes and Some Closure

But no spoilers – you’ll have to read the scripts yourself…..

I finally got around to reading 3 episodes written by Greg Lemieux – posted on his ‘Brimstone’ website – and I liked the way he’s tied together a number of open threads from the two seasons into a trilogy that tells some pretty good stories, develops the characters, and provides some badly needed closure. Even tho I respect the way the writers of the original series brought things to a close, I’m left feeling that there is still a lot of story left in the Waffle Haus reaper gang, in particular George and her family. Greg’s very well done work satisfies some of that need.  (Link to scripts inside)

Leaks Reveal New MGM Management Emerging

Finally some movement forward.  Dare we call this good news?
.
Leaks/rumors identify Spyglass co-heads Gary Barber and Roger Bimbaum as the new possible heads for MGM.
.
This will involve a merger of the two studios.  Spyglass is attractive for two reasons.  One because it is much smaller (than other potential merger partners) the equity left to the core group of controlling creditors will be larger.  And, two because their proposal had less of an emphasis on big expensive films, instead relying on more low budget films, which means less of a need to raise more debt to pursue expensive risky franchise opportunities (likely to end up in bankruptcy all over again).
.
Left unsaid, but implied is that if they go this mix route of low and high budget films then they are going to sell their rights to one or both of the big ‘opportunities’ (Hobbitt and Bond) to raise the cash needed to move forward.
.
Hopefully somewhere in here among the ‘low budget’ films to be made is at least one more for the Dead Like Me franchise.  Hopefully they get it right this time.

Indecision Is The Key To Flexibility

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.’s creditors, unsatisfied with proposals to buy or restructure the debt-laden film studio, have contacted Hollywood executives who may be willing to run it, people with knowledge of the situation said.

Key lenders who have bought into the MGM debt seem to believe that it can be made viable again – with a little more money and new management   – article in side.
